Short Project Summary
My Project was to design a 3D model of a house.  I faced several setbacks which was one of the reasons that this project was a challenge for me but I was able to overcome these setbacks and meet many of my original goals
House Basics
The house Designed has a black to white color scheme with some splashes of shades of blue.  This means that the interior of the house is mostly black white and shades of gray and blue.  This does not account for all aspects of the home.  There is also wood included for the floors and the bar in the downstairs area.  The house has a modern design scheme as pictured above.
Original Goals Reached
  • Find a mentor 
  • Discover if Architecture was a career I was interested in (Which it is)
  • Draw floorpans of house
  • Create 3D drawing of what I envision outside of house to look like before adjustments are made
  • Design 3D model of house using sketch-up
Original Goals Not Reached
          I was not able to reach some my goals because this was my first experience in architecture and design and I was not aware of how long it took​
  • I was not able to make a 3rd floor to the house 
  • I was not able to make a rendering (realistic version of 3D model)
Poolhouse
During the year, I also went through the college apps process.  For the major of architecture, many schools require students applying to submit a portfolio containing drawings and other design work that they have completed.  For my portfolio, I made a series of drawings, but I wanted to show that I had experience with 3D software.  During the middle of the year while i was applying to schools, I decided to make a "mini project which i call the hypothetical poolhouse.  This poolhouse is a small structure containing a kitchen and some living space and it has a balcony inside for a second floor.  For this part of my project I did a rendering (realistic version of 3D model) and submitted the poolhouse as part of my portfolio.
Setbacks
  • Halfway through the year I was no longer able to attend my site for career pathways to work on my project
  • In the winter, hockey started up so it was hard for me to find time that I could go to the office to get work done on the house
  • After hockey season, lacrosse started which made it even more difficult to get to the office
  • I underestimated the amount of hours put in that I would have to work on the house because I had never done it before
  • Had to take a break during the middle of the process to design the poolhouse so i could use it on my college portfolio
